Yountville Gym Pavilion

Location: Napa Valley, CA

Size: 7,000 SF

This detached gym pavilion is conceived as a standalone architectural object within a residential estate in Yountville, Napa Valley. Designed to complement a 7,000 SF primary residence while remaining formally distinct, the pavilion is articulated as a lightweight, contemporary structure set within the landscape.

The plan is organized as a flexible, open workout volume with minimal internal partitions, allowing unobstructed views across the site during exercise and recovery. Floor-to-ceiling glazing and continuous clerestory windows establish a strong visual connection to the surrounding terrain while introducing controlled daylight and cross-ventilation. Recovery and support spaces are compactly integrated to maintain spatial clarity and maximize usable training area.

Architecturally, the pavilion contrasts the main house through its low-profile roof, horizontal emphasis, and refined material palette. Deep overhangs, slender structural elements, and transparent edges reinforce the building’s pavilion-like character, positioning it as both a functional wellness space and a contemplative retreat embedded in the Napa Valley landscape.
